Las Vegas Raiders resigning Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator
The Raiders have officially resigned defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, after Graham initially declined an extension with the team and took interviews to be a head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints. After not getting those jobs, he took a few other interviews to be a defensive coordinator elsewhere, however, Pete Carroll loves defense and wanted to retain Graham. Graham declined an extension before Carroll was named the head coach, looks like under Carroll, Graham was good with coming back.
There’s speculation he just didn’t want to come back under former head coach Antonio Pierce, but that’s not confirmed. Graham has been the Raiders defensive coordinator since 2022, and the defense has improved every year since he’s been there. Going into 2025 he will be going into his third year with the team, which is great for consistency and stability. He knows what core players work best in his system and the players know the system obviously, which is great because now they won’t have to learn a whole new one. This also won’t surprise me if the Raiders bring back some core free agents now like LB Robert Spillane, DB Tre’Von Moehrig and CB Nate Hobbs. Stability it’s important to Raiders’ superstar DE Maxx Crosby, and now he gets that with Graham coming back too. Also expect him to get new guaranteed money very soon in a reworked contract.
