Las Vegas Raiders: Five free agent’s the team could look to sign on day two of NFL free agency
The Raiders were very smart on day one of free agency. They did not overpay for anyone they signed, and let any players they currently had go if they were overpaid elsewhere. They were smart to do so. They still have $48,115,914 in cap space, and could look to make a couple more splashes in day two today. Day one was all about defense. Day two I believe will be heavily about the offense, but there are still a few defensive players to watch as well. Now, I’m not saying these will definitely happen. But here are five free agents I could see the Raiders going after and potentially signing today, in no particular order. Let’s dive in and take a look.
1.) WR Tyler Lockett
Formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, WR Tyler Lockett would be a great fit in the Raiders current offense. He’s speedy, has good hands and runs excellent routes. Oh, and he has some chemistry with head coach Pete Carroll and QB Geno Smith (Both also formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.) Last season he had 49 catches, for 600 yards, and 2 TD’s. From 2019-2022 he had 1000+ yard seasons, almost had five straight but in 2023 fell just short with 894 yards. Still, even at 33 years old, he would be an amazing addition to this Raiders offense.
2.) T Cam Robinson
Formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, tackle Cam Robinson would be perfect for the silver and black. He’s gigantic, and would be great on the other side of Raiders’ star left tackle Kolton Miller. With second year DJ Glaze potentially moving to guard and Jackson Powers Johnson moving to center, Robinson would be a great addition. Still just 29 years old, and standing at 6’6, 335 pounds, Robinson did have a down year this past year. He definitely has some things to clean up, he had 13 penalties last year along with seven sacks allowed in less than 1,000 Offensive snaps played (999 To be exact). However, I still think that he would be a good addition. Offensive Line Coach Brennan Carroll (Raiders head coach Pete Carroll’s son) Could help too. Like his dad, Brennan tends to bring the best out of his players.
3.) CB Asante Samuel Jr
Formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr is still just 25 years old and it would be great to nab one of the division rival Chargers best defensive players. He is coming off an injury that only allowed him to play four games played last year, but in his three seasons prior, he had two interceptions each year along with 11 passes defended in each 2021 and 2022, and 13 in 2023. A bounce back year in Vegas would be quite the story, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind playing the team that let him go twice a year either. After all, he knows them very well.
4.) WR Stefan Diggs
Stefan Diggs, formerly of the Houston Texans, is also coming off an injury. He will be 32 years old in November and will likely be a cheap option at this point in his career, especially coming off of the injury. A one year prove it deal would be a great move for the Raiders. In just eight games played last year, he had 47 catches for 496 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown. Not too bad for only eight games. However, prior to last season, he had six straight 1,000 yard seasons since 2018. And he also had at least eight touchdowns in all of those years except in 2019 when he had six, which is still pretty solid.
5.) S Justin Reid
Formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, safety Justin Reid would be a great replacement for Marcus Epps, who the Raiders lost in free agency day one. They also lost Tre’Von Moehrig but signed Jeremy Chinn to replace him on day one. I think day two, the Raiders should strongly consider going after Justin Reid. Again, it would be great to nab a solid division rival away, especially from the Chiefs. With Reid and Chinn, that would be two great veteran additions and the Raiders would have two hard hitting safeties in the defensive backfield that would leave receivers shaking in their cleats. Reid also just turned 28, still relatively young, and coming off his best season’s the last two years since his rookie year in 2018. He was a huge reason for the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl three times in a row, winning the first two of them. He joined the roster the first year and they were in the superbowl every year he was there. He had 3 sacks in 2023 along with an interception, one forced fumble and 11 passes defended and 95 tackles. Last season, he had two interceptions along with nine passes defended and 87 tackles.
